TPS EFS Seminar: Part I

As I told the friendly people (David, Susan and Laura) at the desk of Total Performance Sports this morning, their gym is like Narnia; its inside is bigger than its outside. This is the unassuming outside:

They just moved to this new building, hence the sign. Their grand opening is June 9th. The mild-mannered exterior hides an interior with many delightful things.

Start with a weightroom with multiple racks (including a monolift);

dumbbells galore;

tires for flipping;

upstairs, a room with mats for classes and a boxing ring:

heavy bags;

and boxing equipment;

Who could ask for anything more?

Now, add in four presenters - Tate, Wendler, Bartley and Kroczaleski - with a gazilion years of training experience and a straight-shooting no-BS delivery, and you have a seminar that is worth the flight from Kansas.

The seminar had two parts. The morning session, which ran from 0900-lunch was a free-for-all Q&A. The quartet up front and a bunch of lifters scattered on the floor, on machines and on benches, asking questions. Three women including me. The afternoon session, from after lunch to 5:40ish, was devoted to technique work on the racks. More about both parts tomorrow. I learned a lot and it was so nice to be around people who take lifting seriously. This is probably the best birthday present I ever bought for me.
